UPDATE: Some program providers have pushed back their start date to after August 18th. We will update you individually when we received additional information. Continue to check your SU email.
Dear Students,
We hope that this email finds you and your loved ones safe and healthy.
As you may already be aware, SU announced the extension of the Travel Restrictions for Non-Essential Travel in a memo sent out on April 2. This indicates a restriction on travel through summer quarter. We have now received confirmation, regrettably, that this impacts students whose fall study abroad program begins before summer intersession, August 18th. As you were to participate in an SU-Sponsored program that starts prior to August 18th, you will not be able to participate and/or transfer credits back to SU. We are deeply saddened by these circumstance and imagine you must be more so.
We know that you, your families, and advisors have put a lot of time into finding a program that works well with your needs. We are simultaneously grateful this decision was made for the health and safety of SU community members and also so sorry that these restrictions will prevent you from participating in this program in the fall.
At this point, you have a few options: (1) defer to Spring 2021 instead of fall, (2) consider switching to a fall program with a later start-date or (3) wait and apply to study abroad for a future term. As of right now, the large majority of SU-Sponsored and SU-Exchange programs are still scheduled to run for fall but this is also subject to change. Whatever you decide, know that we are here to support you. Feel free to reach out to your Education Abroad Advisor via email or schedule a virtual appointment via the Education Abroad Bookings page.
Please let us know how you would like to move forward and if you have any questions about this information.
Warm regards,
Jenn, Kirsti, Dario and Gina
