Dear Students,
It is with sadness that I inform you that the University has made the difficult decision to suspend all Fall and Winter Break 2021 education abroad programming. I know how much effort and consideration you have put into deciding to study abroad on just the right program and can imagine your disappointment. The Education Abroad team shares in this with you. We had been very hopeful that Fall 2021 would see SU students studying abroad again.
This university decision is based on several factors including the ongoing health pandemic, the US Department of State Travel Advisories, which has recently moved 80% of the countries around the world to advisory level 4, its highest level, and many remaining countries to a level 3, and the Center for Disease Control.
After you take some time to process this information, please work with your academic advisors to determine which SU courses you should take at SU in FQ 21. Additionally, connect with your Education Abroad Advisor (Kirsti Ruud or Jenn Chan) if you would like to discuss deferring your education abroad until SQ 22.
Please note that this decision cannot be petitioned.
Here is additional information you need to know based on the type of program you were planning to participate in:
Sponsored and Exchange Programs Participants
We will inform your program provider of your withdrawal. You will not be charged for your study abroad program. Inform your EAO advisor if you wish to defer participation to Winter/Spring Quarters 2022 or beyond.
Non-SU Program Participants
Inform your program provider that you are withdrawing your enrollment based on your home institution’s decision to suspend participation in study abroad programs in Fall 2021 (typically a Fall Semester). Failure to do so may result in unrecoverable deposits and other payments. SU will not honor transfer credits earned during a Fall 2021 study abroad program. Inform your EAO advisor if you wish to defer participation to Winter/Spring Quarters 2022.
My best,
Gina
