2021 College of Arts & Sciences Summer Faculty Research Fellowships

Dr. Sonora Jha, College of Arts and Sciences Associate Dean for Academic Community and Professor, Department of Communication, recently announced the recipients of the College of Arts and Sciences Summer Faculty Research Fellowships.

Promotion Fellowship

  • Dr. Hye-Kyung Kang (Social Work): “Re-envisioning Social Work Education: Building and Living a Social Justice-Focused Clinical Social Work Curriculum”

Dean's Research Fellowships

  • Dr. Caitlin Ring Carlson (Communication and Media): “Today’s Public and the Public Interest: Race, Gender, and Broadcast Media Ownership in 2021”
  • Dr. Le Xuan Hy (Psychology) “Gratitude, Hope and Spirituality in Troubled Times”

Faculty Research Fellowships

  • Dr. Gabriella Gutiérrez y Muhs (Modern Languages and Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies) “The Healing of Literature, The Dialectics of Poetry and Creative Writing: the Environment, Spirituality, Immigration and Identity” (by Latinx scholars and writers in Jesuit Institutions)
  • Dr. Julie Homchick Crowe (Communication and Media): “Viral Denial: Tropes and Argument in the Rejection of Claims about Infectious Disease”
  • Dr. Mary-Antoinette Smith (English): Momentous Matters: Black Literary Lives and the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola”
  • Dr. Zachary Wood (Institute of Public Service): “Democracy & The CD System: A Critical and Comparative Analysis of Local Democratic Norms, Values, and Practices in Seattle, Cleveland, and Little Rock”
  • Dr. Meg Cristofalo (Social Work): “Health Care Social Workers’ Experiences of Telehealth and Its Effects on Patients During the COVID-19 Pandemic”

This year's Selection Committee, made up of last year's recipients of the fellowships, included  Dr. Rashmi Chordiya, Dr. Allison Meyer, Professor Alexander Mouton, Dr. Anne Farina, Dr. Serena Chopra, Dr. Jerome Veith, and Dr. Eric Severson, with support from Kate Reynolds.
