In March, 22 students from Biomechanics and Motor Learning (SPEX 3130) presented the first Biomechanics Fair in the Athletics Performance Center.

As part of the activities, the high school students jumped, ran, and tried to throw a softball with their non-dominant arm, while also testing out their bowling, dribbling, and corn-hole skills.

In addition to being graded by Kinesiology faculty, the undergraduates were graded by the high school students on what they learned and how engaged they were by the demonstrations. (See more photos below.)

Seattle U’s Sport and Exercise Science Program (SPEX) is a rigorous Bachelor of Science degree that provides the foundation for a lifelong career in health, wellness and fitness. Our major applies principles from a range of disciplines so you can graduate prepared to go on to a career in sport and exercise science or graduate school.

“Our small and vibrant department plays an active role in producing tomorrow’s leaders in sport, exercise, and health,” says chair Sarah Shultz, PhD. “We believe in the motto, ‘exercise for life, exercise for everyone’ and look to empower our students to consider the positive impact that exercise can have on the whole person. As a result of our efforts, Seattle University has recently earned the title of an Exercise is Medicine campus by the American College of Sports Medicine.”

Graduates of the BS in Sport and Exercise Science find employment in community, clinical, industry, and medical settings. The strong foundation in human function and performance provides many students with knowledge necessary to pursue graduate studies in related fields of athletic training, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and general sports science.
