November Professor Highlight:
We are excited to invite you to our November professor highlight with Dr. Estella C. Williamson! Dr. Williamson will start with a short lecture titled The Critical Link-How Theory Informs Clinical Practice in Work with Black Women which centers around her research. Then we'll have time for a Q&A session after.
Dr. Estella C. Willliamson, who serves as the Social Work Field Director and teaches in the MSW program, will discuss her research on the sexual and mental health of Black women through the theoretical frameworks of Black Feminism and Relational Cultural Theory. Dr. Williamson will share how theory has informed her treatment of women of color experiencing mood disorders. Her presentation will conclude with an examination of how the intersection of theory and practice provide context for anti-racist practices throughout the field education curriculum.

December Professor Highlight:
We're re-launching our August Professor Highlight and invite you to attend our December 2022 Professor Highlight with Dr. Hye-Kyung Kang! Dr. Kang will discuss the topic: Social Justice-Focused and Community-Based Social Work: What is it and why is it important?
Hye-Kyung Kang, MA, MSW, PhD, serves as Chair and Associate Professor of the Social Work Department and as Director of the MSW Program. Dr. Kang’s research focuses on postcolonial social work practice, community organizing and mobilization in immigrant communities and communities of color, cultural citizenship, and critical pedagogy. In the recent years, she has been focusing on building community capacity and university-community partnership with marginalized communities through community-based participatory research.
