Tuition for the 2024-25 academic year is $735 per credit hour (subject to change by Seattle University Board of Trustees). The MNPL degree is a 45-credit program, so the total cost for tuition over the 22-months of the program is $33,075. Additional student fees apply.

All admitted applicants are considered for Seattle University Graduate Scholarships based upon a holistic review of all information received in the application process and available funding, including the optional, but encouraged, statement of any special personal or family circumstances affecting your need for financial assistance. Awards are renewable for multi-year programs based upon satisfactory progress toward degree completion. Scholarship amounts are based upon full-time enrollment of 6 quarter credits per term. Students taking fewer than 6 quarter credits will have their award amount pro-rated accordingly.
Endowed scholarship consideration may require additional documents and recipients may be notified after admission depending upon the selection criteria. Domestic and permanent resident applicants are strongly encouraged to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be eligible for any need-based endowed or external scholarships and/or graduate student loans.
Awarded to two incoming graduate students who have a record of strong academic performance, outstanding leadership potential, and a commitment to working and making positive contributions to the nonprofit sector.
Award Amount and Timeline: Two students will be selected to receive a scholarship. Each scholarship award is $7500 and is distributed in equal quarterly installments over the first two years of the program (Fall 2023-Spring 2025). The recipient must remain enrolled in at least six credits/per quarter in the MNPL program, maintain good academic standing, and must also continue to qualify for federal financial aid (through FAFSA completion) each year, to continue receiving the scholarship.
Deadline: Scholarship awards are prioritized for those who meet the April 1st priority application deadline. Scholarship applications received after April 1st, will be reviewed and awarded on a case-by-case basis depending on remaining funds.

The Rising Leader Scholarship is named for Mary Stewart Hall, Ph.D., founding Director of the Master of Nonprofit Leadership Program at Seattle University. Dr. Hall had a distinguished record of leading philanthropic initiatives regionally and nationally. In the 1990’s she led the statewide initiative to identify the competencies needed for effective nonprofit leadership, which became the basis of the MNPL curriculum. Dr. Hall was known for identifying rising leaders, and encouraging them to join the Master of Nonprofit Leadership program at Seattle University so that they could accelerate their contributions to the sector. This scholarship honors her legacy by investing in students with outstanding potential.

Awarded on the basis of the student’s potential for leadership in the nonprofit sector. Financial need is strongly considered when selecting recipients and determining the amount of their award.

Scholarship amounts are divided equally between three academic terms in the student’s first program year (Fall, Winter, and Spring) and four academic terms in the student’s second program year (Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring). Funds are distributed after the student has confirmed enrollment in the Nonprofit Leadership program and registered for their first quarter (Fall 2023). Scholarship amounts are dispersed as a credit toward tuition. Recipients must remain enrolled in the MNPL program and maintain good academic standing each year to continue receiving the scholarship.

Award Amount and Timeline: Applicants to Seattle University Graduate Programs are eligible to apply for the AmeriCorps Alumni Scholarship. Recipients of the scholarship receive a total award of $3,000 toward tuition, which is distributed over the first two years of the student's academic program. Eligible applicants must have successfully completed (or will have completed) an AmeriCorps term of service by the time of enrollment in their graduate program. Seven new scholarships are awarded annually.
How to Apply:
Notice of Scholarship Award: AmeriCorps Alumni Scholarship award decisions will be made after admissions decisions. Seattle University will notify applicants of scholarship decisions by May 1.
AmeriCorps Alumni Fee Waiver: In addition, AmeriCorps alums who complete an application for the Master of Nonprofit Leadership program may request an application fee waiver. In the "Fee Payment" section of their online application, applicants should indicate they are an AmeriCorps alum in order to receive the fee waiver.
Faculty are active in research and continually apply for grants and funding. Periodically, faculty members will be awarded a grant that allows them to hire an MNPL student to help them with their project. Faculty will notify students as opportunities arise.
