The following information addresses some of the most basic questions that students tend to have regarding the study of philosophy. It also includes information of particular interest to philosophy majors and minors.

Basic Information on the Study of Philosophy

The American Philosophical Association is a great way to find more information on Philosophy. It offers a basic description of the field and its areas of study, graduate programs along with descriptions of the uses of skills acquired in the study of philosophy.

Philosophy and the Jesuit Tradition

As part of its most recent program review, the Seattle University Philosophy Department has prepared a Mission and Values Report that provides information on the place of philosophy at Seattle University and in Jesuit higher education generally.

Research Resources in Philosophy

The Lemieux Library has substantial holdings in areas of philosophy in which Seattle University faculty concentrate, including reference works, journals, and monographs. If books or journals are not in the collection, they can often be obtained through interlibrary loan.

A great many Web sites devoted to philosophy now exist. Their quality, however, varies widely. In using Web links, one should exercise great caution in confirming that the source is reputable. Among basic reference works, some online resources are well established or are under development.
