Biography

I am the founder of the anthropology program here at Seattle University and have taught in it for over 25 years. I specialize in Indigenous People and Religions of North America. In addition to teaching courses in Shamanism, Human Rights, and other cultural studies relating to Indigenous and First Nations People I also teach courses in human origins and evolution as well as archaeology. I have published books on Cultural Memory, Indigenous Resistance to Colonization, and numerous articles and chapter contributions on anthropological subjects. My field work includes work throughout Alaska, the Pacific Northwest, Mexico and Central America, and the Middle East.

Outside of the academy, I am an avid fly fisherman, skier (alpine and Nordic), and hiker.
