Degree Requirements

The Interdisciplinary Arts major builds on the cross-disciplinary nature of arts by letting students choose an area of specialization while they integrate courses from other art forms. Students design their own program with the help of a Fine Arts faculty advisor.

BA Requirements

In order to earn the Bachelor of Arts with a major in Interdisciplinary Arts, students must complete a minimum of 180 quarter credits, with a cumulative and a major/program grade point average of 2.00.

I. Core Curriculum Requirements

Module I: Engaging Academic Inquiry (30 credits)
Module II: Engaging Jesuit Traditions (15 credits)
Module III: Engaging the World (15 credits)

II. College of Arts and Sciences Requirements

Modern Languages 1150, 1250, 1350, or equivalent (15 credits)

One of the following two History courses:
HIST 1200: Origins of Western Civilization
HIST 1210: Studies in Modern Civilization
HIST 2310: Survey of the United States

III. Major Requirements

Students are required to take 65 credits in interdisciplinary arts, including 40 credits in Arts Leadership courses. Below are the required courses for all majors: 

ARTL 1000: Introduction to Arts Leadership
ARTL 2000: Financial Strategies in the Arts
ARTL 2100: Marketing the Arts
ARTL 3000: Law and the Arts
ARTL 3100: Resource Development for Arts Organizations
ARTL 4000: Public Policy & Advocacy in the Arts
ARTL 4950: Arts Leadership Internship
ARTL 4900: Arts Entrepreneurship/ Senior Synthesis

In addition to the required Arts Leadership courses, students will choose the remaining 25 credits, for a total of 65, in any combination of ART, ARTH, ARTL, ARTD, MUSC, PHOT, or THTR. In consultation with the student’s advisor, 10 of these credits must be from a discipline other than the student’s area of specialization, and 10 credits must be taken at the 3000-4000 level.
