The Psychology Department engages students in the study of the many aspects of psychological life—individual, bodily, interpersonal, ethical, social, and cultural – using reflective and empirical methods.
The faculty brings a broad range of perspectives and practical experience to their teaching. Grounded in the theory and practice of clinical work as well as in quantitative and qualitative research, they bring a range of perspectives to their teaching, including humanistic and phenomenological, depth psychology, social, behavioral, and cognitive. They also draw upon perspectives and material from other disciplines such as literature, philosophy, history, and other social sciences in their teaching.
Offerings include courses that are standard in any department (e.g., developmental, abnormal, social, and research methods) as well as courses that focus on important but often-neglected areas (e.g., forgiveness, gender, political and ecological issues, health, existential-phenomenology, multicultural counseling, and creativity).
We encourage students to explore the field of psychology by job shadowing and/or volunteering. We also assist students in pursuing Practicum (internship) opportunities providing an excellent way to learn about different professions and different agencies efficiently.

Please add yourself only to the waitlists that are of interest to you and please be discerning.
The primary consideration of whether you are moved from a waitlist into a class is need, such as:
Each individual’s situation is carefully considered. Only when two students have equal claim do we consider the order in which they joined the waitlist. We try our very best to include as many people as the class allows, but we cannot always accommodate everyone. We will work with you to find alternative courses that will still give you a good schedule and keep you on schedule to graduate on time.
You will notice that PSYC-2050, 3050, and 3700 are closed. If you try to register, you will be added to a waitlist. This is to make sure those who most need these courses get them and won’t be crowded out by those who don’t. Ultimately, this makes sure that every student graduate on time.
We will be contacting students about the waitlists for important details or information we need. You will need to respond by the deadline given in the email. Please check your email.
We begin working on waitlists the week following registration. If you critically need a class, you will be moved into it and notified. When you are offered a spot in an elective course, it will have an accompanying deadline (usually a day or two). If you do not respond within that time frame, the spot may be offered to someone else. Most of you will hear from us by early March 2023, but a few spots in critical classes are held until just before the quarter starts.
Please register for a full load (at least 12 credits) unless you are waitlisted for 3050. When you are moved off the waitlist, we will contact you and ask which class you want the waitlisted class to replace.
*NOTE: priority will be given to BS majors, who may need these courses for their timely graduation
