The Seattle University PMBA Core is focused on developing managers who can navigate complex situations to solve business problems, recognize (or create) opportunities, and think holistically about business challenges—with concern for people, processes, and technologies.
The core curriculum includes eight courses, designed to provide students with a strong foundation in the disciplines that make up a comprehensive business education. Each course focuses on solving real-world business problems.
The core is offered on two different tracks: the Behavioral Core (Management, Ethics, Leadership and Marketing) and the Analytical Core (Accounting, Finance, Economics, Operations). Students can take the two core tracks simultaneously or take the Behavioral Core first followed by the Analytical Core. Both tracks in the Core starts twice each year, in fall quarter and again in spring quarter. If a PMBA student starts in summer or winter quarter, they would begin with electives, then switch to core the following quarter.
The core classes are cohort-based, meaning that students move through each core track together. This enables students to build close relationships with one another and to build a network in the Seattle business community. Because of the cohort model, students take the core classes on the same night for three quarters; so, for example (for a fall start), you would take analytical core courses on Monday or Wednesday nights for fall, winter, and spring quarters and behavioral core classes on Tuesday or Thursday nights for fall, winter, and spring quarters.
