With an emphasis on economics as it relates to business, the Albers’ Bachelor of Business Administration (BABA) in Economics degree provides a comprehensive study of economics, business policy, and strategy. Designed for students interested in solving problems and making decisions in the private and public sectors, our program cultivates students' analytical, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, and communication skills.
Our highly effective, dedicated faculty help you develop the skills you need to be an effective and ethical leader. In addition, the Economics Department has an advisory board that consists of local economists from the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. Our work with these experts indirectly enhances a student's experience. For instance, feedback from the advisory board and other professionals has inspired our faculty to create assignments that help students develop the skills most valued by employers.
Upon graduation, you will be equipped to apply the skills you have learned as you pursue graduate study and/or careers in economics, data analytics, law, business, public administration, or other areas of business.

Focusing on consumers and producers, microeconomics addresses decisions about what is produced, how goods and services are distributed, and who receives the income.
Macroeconomics examines the overall economy—national and international—including issues of growth, unemployment, and inflation
These two branches of economics provide frameworks for analyzing the implications of business decisions.

I chose to study Business Economics because of the excellent professors. They connected economic theory to real life and changed the way I viewed our world. I honed my critical thinking and communication skills and learned how choices are made within the context of costs, trade-offs, and scarce resources. I apply that knowledge in my personal and professional life every day.
The business economics program at Albers creates a strong foundation of economic theory and continues to build on that with specialized classes and case studies. Its tightly knit community of faculty and students promotes an environment for growth and understanding of concepts to produce graduates with a holistic view of economics. Throughout my time in the program, there were countless opportunities to seek extra help, learn beyond the scope of the class, and network with faculty and alumni to begin my career after college.
The business economics program at Albers has challenged me in academic and nonacademic ways, allowing me to grow as a student but also develop the analytical skills to think critically about the world around me. The opportunities I’ve had to apply what I have learned in clubs and projects as well as the faculty who’ve supported me will create a strong foundation for my professional career.
During many years of business consulting experience, before I returned to academics and joined the SU faculty, I formed an ideal of what a well-prepared student would need to succeed in the business world. At SU, I found that this ideal was already realized in the business economics major. Our graduates have the range of knowledge to understand and respect all aspects of running a business and the depth of knowledge to see beyond present noise to better futures.
