This is the final IPP newsletter of 2020! We’ll take a break next month and return in January with the latest news and information related to inclusionary practices.
As the holiday season begins, we hope you are looking forward to some rest and rejuvenation. Sometimes our best-laid plans for self-care and rebooting get away from us, and we end up back in the routine without a break. Plan your time well, reach out to friends, family, and those who are alone. Find time to do what you like best (this may take some readjusting)! It will be a bit different this year but remember there is a lot to be grateful for. Find ways to appreciate those people, things and activities that are important to you.
We so appreciate all of you for what you do for youth in Washington state and wish you a happy holiday season!
Resource Highlight
CCTS is committed to supporting you and your efforts to increase inclusionary practices through collaboration between Career and Technical Education and Special Education staff in your classroom, your school, and your district. One of the ways we do this is by providing resources to support your inclusion journey.
By now, many of you are familiar with many of our training events and know that they are archived for your reference. A new feature is our curated library of articles and other resources that you may find useful. This Google Drive folder contains supplemental materials from many of our training events. A sampling of items includes:
- Action Planning Tools to support your team’s work in planning for change
- Articles and Infographic from the 2017 University of Washington Study on the impact of CTE course-taking for students with disabilities
- Evidence-Based List of Practices and Predictors of Success in Secondary Transition from the National Technical Assistance Center on Transition
Of note are some timely resources on learning and leading in our current distance and hybrid learning environments, such as the October 2020 Christiansen Institute report on Successful Decision-making in Time of Uncertainty.
Additional resources will be shared tomorrow, November 19 at 3 p.m. during our Third Thursday Conversation on Inclusion and Remote Learning. These include:
- Sample lesson planning tools developed by Kera Farrel, a Work Site Learning Coordinator in Evergreen School District.
- Resources from the Distance Learning Playbook for Grades K-12 (Fisher, D., Fisher, N. and Hattie, J. 2020), including a model for student engagement (Beery, A, 2020) and a chart of the four learning functions with a list of sample tools for each one. Check into the Teaching Channel for their webinar series with the authors.
Visit the CCTS Inclusionary Practices Project Resources page to access these materials, and more!
