Rev. Byron L. Harris is the lead pastor of Vancouver Heights United Methodist Church, in Vancouver, WA. He is the son of Rev. Dr. Stephen E. and Dr. Beverly Boone Harris; born and reared in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He is a graduate of Tallwood High School. He went on to attend Hampton University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Rev Harris has also earned a Master of Divinity (MDiv) from the Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University. Rev. Harris is currently a student in STM's Doctor of Ministry program. After working as an educator for the Suffolk Public Schools, he moved to Madison, WI in preparation to attend the University of Wisconsin to earn a master’s in educational counseling. While living in Madison, he joined Mount Zion Baptist Church, where he answered his call to ministry and was licensed into the American Baptist Churches, USA (ABC) to preach the Gospel. Byron was ordained when hired to serve as Executive Pastor of New Calvary Baptist Church in Norfolk, VA. It was while at New Calvary that Pastor Byron also served as executive director of the outreach ministry of the church.
Rev. Harris is a social justice/liberation theologian, prolific teacher, preacher, and pastoral care provider to his congregants and community. Vancouver Heights United Methodist Church is a faithful part of the reconciling ministry network of the Pacific Northwest.
