Greetings! My name is Rabbi Daniel Weiner, Senior Rabbi of Temple De Hirsch Sinai in Capitol Hill located at Seattle Washington in the United States.
The Center for Ecumenical and Interreligious Engagement is completing its second full year of life here at Seattle University. I am one of the many leaders in the region who participate and engage regularly with the Center, its leadership and the leadership of the university.
All of us are painfully aware of the discord and division in our world today, coupled with erosion of trust in institutions which we used to take for granted. The work of CEIE is even more important and impactful now that it's ever been, and we are so grateful for your commitment and investment in our work.
The first thing we'd like to highlight is that my team at Temple de Hirsch Sinai has asked the Center to join us in hosting Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League, the world’s leading anti-hate organization with a distinguished record of fighting antisemitism and advocating for just and fair treatment to all. You can follow the newsletter links to register through Temple de Hirsch Sinai, at the Clergy Institute for Interfaith Learning.
Next, it is thrilling to announce the launch of our collaborative Seeking Religious Literacy Canvas Course this month! This course was created in collaboration between partners in the Pacific Northwest, led by CEIE, and alongside the Parliament of the World’s Religions. This non-credit bearing, self-paced, multi-media course seeks religious literacy as an essential good in the world today. You can learn more about how to register and engage in our newsletter!
The Spring Workshop, titled Leading by Centering the Margins, which you’ll see in the newsletter, begins its second session on Thursday, May 25. This virtual workshop series will take place in the evening hours from 6:00-8:00 pm so you can attend both the event with Jonathan Greenblatt at Temple de Hirsch Sinai and this workshop! You can still register at the CEIE website for our Spring workshop at seattleu.edu/thecenter, or directly through our newsletter.
Finally, The Interfaith Observer's Spring issue arrives this May! The overarching theme of this issue is the "Beloved Community." It explores what "Beloved Community' means and how it's created from a variety of different religious, spiritual, and cultural viewpoints, and encourages us to think more deeply about how we can create a sense of being part of a beloved community for the people around us.
Thank you for your engagement and curiosity this spring season. I wish all of you to be strong and resolute in our pursuit of peace, justice, and blessing for all people.
Thank you.
