Only when the last tree has died, and the last river been poisoned, and the last fish been caught, will we realize we cannot eat money
Cree Indian ProverbHuman population growth and climate change continue to burden ecosystems and the availability of natural resources which makes conservation critical. Perhaps more importantly, conservation helps maintain the biodiversity and health of natural ecosystems.
We live on a planet filled with undiscovered ecosystems and organisms. Ecosystems contain a complex coexistence of a variety of living and nonliving elements. If an ecosystem is disrupted even slightly, the impacts can be broad and detrimental. Experts estimate that the extinction rate is now up to 10,000 times higher than the natural extinction rate. We do not yet know what lasting impacts this will have on ecosystems and the health of the planet. Continued research on the ecosystems is therefore important to the future of the planet and all beings on it.
