Dr. Homchick discussed how the Bullitt Center serves as an example of the persuasive power of architecture and its role in campaigns for sustainability. Dr. Green discussed if and how data analytics can be used to promote sustainability of public utilities and their consumer base.

Description: A conversation with Dr. Rob Stavins. Dr. Stavins directs the Kennedy Schools' Environmental Economics Program at Harvard. His research has examined diverse areas of environmental economics and policy, and he has been featured in a variety of economics, law, and policy journals. He has acted as a consultant to government agencies, international organizations, corporations, and advocacy groups.

Description: Ed Casey, professor of philosophy at SUNY Stony Brook, presented a talk on “Coming to the Edge: Place and Climate Crisis.” Casey’s recent research includes investigations into place and space; landscape painting and maps as modes of representation; ethics and the other; feeling and emotion; philosophy of perception (with special attention to the role of the glance); and the nature of edges. Description: April is Earth month! Friends or individuals teamed up for the 3-week EcoChallenge for students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The challenge was to raise awareness and adopt new habits to care for the planet and our communities. For three weeks, April 11-29, people challenged themselves to learn, act, advocate for and share information about each week's theme: FOOD and WASTE (week 1); ENERGY and BUILDINGS (week 2); SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY (week 3). Description: The Institute for Catholic Thought and Culture (ICTC) hosted Jose Ramon Villarin, SJ, scientist, climate justice scholar, and head of the Climate Studies Division of the Manila Observatory, to speak on “Tilling the Earth, Caring for the Poor: Musings on Stewardship and Sustainability.” This timely presentation included panelist Patty Bowman, Director of Social Outreach at St. James cathedral and Jessie Dye, Program and Outreach Director or Earth Ministry/Washington Interfaith Power and Light. It was a stimulating conversation on how local communities are working to address issues of environmental injustice. More info.
