11:00am-11:45am: Panel discussion about Food Justice with Ivy Kusler (Chartwells Regional Vice President), Dr. Alvin Sturdivant (VP of Student Development), Karina Saunders (Assistant Director for Office of Multicultural Affairs) and a Student Government representative.
11:45am-12:15 pm: Food Pantry Cook-off. Four Redhawk Dining Chefs will create a meal using ingredients found in our SU Pantry and the panel + audience participants will judge the food and answer questions about how they see food justice in their work, lives, and community!

Description: Join other youth climate advocates at a climate march in Seattle. The march and series of actions is part of a youth-led Global Day of Action to call out the funders of the climate crisis. Here in Seattle, we’ll be marching to the front doors of the largest climate polluters to demand action. The march will start at Pier 62 on the Waterfront and head to JPMorgan Chase’s PNW HQ, Liberty Mutual’s regional HQ, and City Hall.

Description: Green Seattle Partnership is hosting their annual Green Seattle Day as a part of Seattle Forest Week. Come and join CEJS and Seattle University Rotaract Members for a fun day planting trees in the Seattle community! This event is an opportunity to be one of hundreds of volunteers planting native trees, shrubs, and groundcover across the city that will become Seattle's future forests. We will be working in the East Duwamish Green Space located in North Beacon Hill, which is a short walk from the Beacon Hill Light Rail Station.

Description: YMCA Earth Service Corps will be hosting its annual Environmental Leaders Summit. The Summit brings together youth and adult voices across generations to discuss the pressing environmental issues in our communities. The Summit is identifying knowledgeable environmental professionals with a passion for connecting with young people who can serve as Table Hosts. Each Table Host is the anchor for one specific table and provides background and expertise around an environmental topic while engaging high school participants in a youth-centered discussion. Description: Join Gonzaga University for an evening with the award-winning author of Braiding Sweetgrass, Robin Wall Kimmerer. The book reframes the relationship between land and humans by exploring themes of reciprocity. Braiding Sweetgrass focuses on plants and botany as seen through Native American traditions and Western scientific traditions. Professor Kimmerer is known for her scholarship on traditional ecological knowledge, ethnobotany, and moss ecology. Register here.

Description: Join the CEJS at the WOHESC 2022 Conference March 2-4 with sessions focused on social justice, campus engagement, academics, operations, facilities and student leadership. WOHESC is a platform for inspiring change and action related to sustainability and social justice within the Pacific Northwest's higher education institutions to be shared. Description: This event for students (teams of 3-4 OR individual participation) will introduce you to the process of human-centered design and design thinking as a means to develop solutions to complex sustainability problems. We want to challenge you to generate ideas and find creative solutions built for the humans who will actually use them. The Challenge will be a full day of activity, including workshops facilitated by guest expert speakers, collaborative group ideating and project development and mentorship from local industry leaders. Description: Please join us for presentations by CEJS student fellows Breann Kniffen and Donna Shahbazi. Breann Kniffen (Cell and Molecular Biology, '23), recipient of the Francis Student Research Fellowship, will present their native beekeeping and research project that aims to gain better insight into the diversity and abundance of native bee species in WA state, increase native bee awareness to the public, and increase native bee abundance on SU campus by testing if bee housing structures increase native bee survival rates. Donna Shahbazi (School of Law, '24), recipient of the Gary L. Chamberlain fellowship, examines student-led climate movements across the United States to utilized as a blueprint for student groups in action and the many to come.
