Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues,
As we move into the Spring Quarter, the Lemieux Library and its Library Faculty, Staff and Student employees will continue to support you through our core service areas – access to materials, collection development, research support, teaching and learning, and scholarly communication.
Liaison Support
Your Library Faculty liaison is here to answer any questions you may have about our Library resources, remote services, and/or any other questions you may have about operations this Spring Quarter.
Access to Materials
At this moment, the library is closed consistent with the Governor’s Stay at Home order. As a result, the print collection is currently unavailable. The Library has extended due dates for items due during the closure. Please check the Services Update for more information about your materials, renewals, and for updates on our policies. We will be offering robust access to digital content through our catalog and reserves services, which you can access through the library’s website.
Support for Resources
The Library is committed to delivering appropriate resources in support of the curriculum. Please submit acquisition requests to your Liaison Librarian.
Textbooks and supplemental books for course work will be purchased as ebooks if available, even when a print copy is already in the library collection. In some cases, we may not be able to purchase from some publishers who license exclusively with students and faculty and not with academic libraries. The Library supports streaming media from a variety of vendors. Check the Library catalog and notify your Liaison Librarian if you cannot find a specific title.
We will make every effort to review and order requests for ebooks and media within a week. However, in the current environment processing time will vary depending on publisher/vendor response.
Research and Information Support
In Spring Quarter, our Research Services librarians will be available through Virtual Reference chat, from 10am – 6pm Monday through Thursday, and 10am – 4pm on Fridays. Students with questions can send in a chat message, and research help via chat (supported by partner Librarians from the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities) will be available 24/7.
Students, staff and faculty may also request virtual research consultations from our Library faculty through our ‘Request a Consultation’ form. A Librarian will respond within two business days to set up a Zoom consultation, or correspond with you remotely by phone or email.
If no appointment is needed, you can email our Research Services team directly at ris@redhawks.onmicrosoft.com.
Teaching and Learning Support
Library faculty will continue to provide information literacy instruction and support for research assignments. Depending on course needs, resources may include live presentations in Zoom, digital learning objects to share in Canvas, research guides, and individual or group research consultations.
We are also available to collaborate on research assignment design, and to connect students and faculty to the items in our digital collections that will most benefit their research needs.
Library Instruction support may be requested through Liaison Librarians or the library instruction request form. To ensure adequate preparation and effective alignment of library instruction with the learning needs of the class, we ask that faculty share relevant class assignments in advance.
Scholarly Communication
We will continue to offer support relating to the publication and distribution of scholarship. Faculty with questions regarding traditional or open access publishing options, digital scholarship projects, or copyright issues arising from their scholarly or creative work may contact the Scholarly Communication Officer or Liaison Librarians.
ScholarWorks, Seattle University’s online institutional repository, will continue to showcase the work of faculty, staff, and students, as well as the library’s archival items and unique holdings. Contact scholarworks@seattleu.edu for assistance contributing material to ScholarWorks or creating a faculty research profile.
