Planning for Spring Break and Spring Quarter

February 16, 2021

Dear Redhawks:

The end of the quarter is just around the corner, which means that a well-deserved Spring Break is in sight. This message is to provide you with information to help you plan for a safe and restful break and a smooth transition into Spring Quarter.

Avoid Non-Essential Travel

We ask that you refrain from non-essential out-of-state travel and from large group activities during Spring Break. Students who travel out-of-state, gather in large groups, or engage in any activities that could increase the risk of contracting COVID-19 will be required to quarantine in their residence hall room or off-campus home for 14 days. The university is also closed for Easter Break (April 2-5, 2021) and we ask that you make these same considerations for that weekend. (Please Note that Spring Break for the School of Law will take place March 15-19, and that classes in the School of Law will be held on Monday, April 5).

Residence Halls: Open for Spring & Easter Breaks

The residence halls will remain open for Spring Break at no additional cost. Limited dining service will be available. For those who opt not to remain on campus for the break, move-in will occur on the weekend of March 27-28.

Returning for Spring Quarter

Spring Quarter classes will begin on March 29, 2021. Classes with in-person components will begin meeting right away. Students who are required to quarantine for 14 days will not be able to participate in any in-person classes or other activities until their quarantine period is complete. If you are required to quarantine at the beginning of the quarter and you have any in-person commitments, contact your faculty to notify them that you will not be able to participate in-person until the end of your quarantine.

Pre-Arrival Testing

The university’s free, mandatory weekly surveillance testing program will continue through the end of the academic year; therefore, we will not require pre-arrival testing as we did in Fall and Winter Quarter.

I invite you to explore opportunities for on-campus engagement over Spring Break in ConnectSU. I hope that this information is helpful as you plan for Spring Break and returning for Spring Quarter.

I wish you a great rest of Winter Quarter and look forward to your continued success at Seattle University.

Sincerely,

James Willette, Ph.D.
