Dear Redhawks:

It is my pleasure to welcome you back to Seattle University for Spring Quarter 2020, and I hope you and your families are safe and well. As we begin our remote/virtual quarter together, I write to remind you about your responsibilities as they relate to the Redhawk Commitment and Code of Student Conduct, which is available as a PDF on the Office of the Dean of Students website. The Redhawk Commitment and Code of Student Conduct contain standards that have been established to assist in building an inclusive learning community, whether on-campus, off-campus, or online, where safety, respect, consideration, dignity, and care define our shared commitment to one another. In addition to important policies to which all students are accountable, the Code also outlines the Integrity Formation process, which is the University’s process for resolving alleged violations of the Code.

Please carefully review the information in the Code of Student Conduct, as it is your responsibility to be familiar with all of the University’s standards of conduct and the Integrity Formation process.

Additional University Policies

In addition to the policies found in the Code of Student Conduct, the Office of the Dean of Students website lists several additional policies that apply to all Seattle University students.  These policies include the Sexual Misconduct Policy, Sexual Harassment Policy, and several other university policies that are important for you to know about. Please take a moment to visit the Office of the Dean of Students website to review these important policies.

Resident Handbook

Residential students should also read the Resident Handbook, as it contains additional policies, information, and resources specific to living in University-sponsored housing.  A noteworthy policy update for Spring Quarter 2020 is that in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19,  students living in university owned/managed housing are not permitted to invite visitors/guests into their rooms/apartments or common areas of their buildings until further notice.  If you are a residential student with questions about this policy update, please contact Housing & Residence Life at housing@seattleu.edu.   

Updates to the Code of Student Conduct for 2019-20

As announced in Fall 2019, substantial revisions were made to the Code of Student Conduct for 2019-20. These revisions were based on a comprehensive two-year review process that began in March 2017, and involved a university-wide Code of Student Conduct Review Committee comprised of faculty, staff, and undergraduate, graduate, and law students. You can review the specific updates that were made to the Code of Student Conduct since last year’s version by visiting the Recent Code Updates page on the Office of the Dean of Students website.
