Celebrating PRIDE

Dear Seattle University Community,

As Pride Month begins, the university celebrates and stands in solidarity with all LGBTQ+ people and especially those students, faculty, staff and alumni who are part of our Seattle U family. We would not be whole without you and are deeply grateful for your contributions to our campus community and educational mission.

In addition to being a time of celebration and joy, Pride Month is a reminder of the work that we as a university community are called to undertake in making our campus more inclusive and welcoming. The LGBTQ+ Inclusion Task Force, which was commissioned by the President in 2018, is continuing to identify areas for improvement and enhanced support, and in the coming year will be sharing its report and recommendations with our President-elect and the wider campus community.

More information about the task force, educational resources and activities and events related to Pride Month can be found at theOffice of Diversity and Inclusion. Here at Seattle University, we look forward in a special way to honoring and congratulating our LGBTQ+ 2021 graduates at the Lavender Graduation celebration on June 11. In addition, Zoom backgrounds to celebrate Pride Month are available here.

As we continue to build a campus community in which all are affirmed, valued, seen, heard and feel a sense of belonging, let us this month and always express our support and gratitude for SU’s LGBTQ+ community.

Sincerely,

Stephen V. Sundborg, S.J.
