Dear SU Community,
I hope that you are experiencing a productive and restorative start to the spring quarter. I’m pleased to announce the Racial Equity Summit – a LIFT SU initiative – an opportunity to gather as a learning community to deepen understanding and build collaborative capacity towards becoming a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive university.
This year we announced the launch of LIFT SU: Inclusive Excellence Action Plan for Racial Equity and Antiracism 2020-2021, a response to the call to action to address systemic racism. This effort has been endorsed by university leadership. This summit is a next step to engage and activate the entire university in these commitments. The Office of Diversity and Inclusion will be reaching out to various institutional stakeholders to make our time together productive and accessible.
In preparation for the summit, we encourage you to review our Office of Diversity and Inclusion Racial Equity Summit webpage, a living resource available before and after the gathering.
Among the self-guided pre-work, I would like to highlight the upcoming Seattle Arts & Lectures live and online conversation featuring Ibram X. Kendi, #1 New York Times best-selling author of How to Be an Antiracist and Stamped from the Beginning, next Wednesday, April 7, 2021, 6:00 p.m. PST. Event details here.
The Office of Diversity and Inclusion will sponsor a limited number of tickets on a first-come-first-serve basis, for students, staff, and faculty to attend. If you are interested in attending, please fill out this form with your Seattle U email address by clicking here.
Additional details on the summit are forthcoming. We look forward to this time together.
Sincerely,
Natasha T. Martin, JD
Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion
