Preparing Social Change Agents in Counseling

Seattle University’s Online Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is a national leader in developing highly skilled, multiculturally competent counselors that the world needs today. We are here to support your journey in becoming a mental health leader, social change agent and advocate in counseling:

  • Complete the program from anywhere in the United States
  • Access to a personalized Student Success Coordinator
  • Small class sizes -- classes with no more than 12 students
  • Flexible scheduling for working adults
  • Faculty who are leaders in their respective areas of research
  • Dual certification/licensure eligibility for those seeking substance use disorder professional certification and mental health counselor licensure in Washington state

Additional Program Features

  • The first two years of the program are offered in a format in which courses are online and asynchronous (no Zoom classes but weekly structure and deadlines.)

  • There is a summer residency requirement that takes place across four days in the summer on Seattle University's campus after the first and second years in the program.

  • The 3rd year of the program is a hybrid experience in which students complete an in-person practicum and internship at an approved site while taking an online synchronous group supervision course that meets once a week. (Practicums and internships can be completed where you live, it just has to be an approved site.)

  • Since the program is designed to help students obtain mental health licensure, the practicum and internship must be at a program-approved site located within the United States.

  • The degree earned upon completion of the program is a Master of Arts in Education with specialty in Counseling, also listed an an M.A.Ed in Counseling.
