Biography
Dirk has twenty years’ experience teaching English to international students. He began his career teaching English in Japan in an English-instruction institute. He later returned to Japan as a teacher for two Japanese high schools as part of the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program. After this experience, he attended the University of Washington and received his Master’s in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. Upon graduation, he began teaching at this same university in their English Language Program. For the past 15 years in this position, he taught students from a great number of different countries at all ability levels. Dirk strives to build a trusting and open atmosphere for learning in his classroom and works hard to help his students to succeed. In his free time, Dirk enjoys being outdoors and traveling. Dirk grew up in the Seattle area and loves its blue skies, majestic mountains, and abundant Evergreen trees. He believes there is nothing better than a little hike out in the fresh Northwest air and sunshine. He has also traveled to about twenty different countries, some of his favorites being building houses in Tanzania and Brazil. He looks forward to meeting you soon!
