HES Custodial Services is committed to maintaining, cleaning, and protecting the interior of our academic campus buildings. We focus on providing a clean, safe, attractive, functional, and comfortable environment for our faculty, staff, students, and visitors. Services include sanitizing, floor care, stocking paper products, collecting, and disposing of trash and recycle.
Service Requests
To report a custodial problem in our academic and administrative buildings, please enter a work order online. For urgent clean-ups during regular business hours, please contact the HES office directly at 206-296-6194. Outside of regular business hours, please contact Public Safety at 206-296-5990 to report custodial concerns that involve safety, security, or property.
Residence Hall Custodial
The Residence Hall Custodial staff believes in providing a supportive campus climate by providing the necessary services to meet the cleaning needs of the students, faculty, summer conference attendees, and the Jesuit community.
Service Requests
Students and staff in the housing can place a work order online. Emergencies should be reported to the Facilities Resource Center by calling 206-296-6996 during regular business hours Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Outside of regular business hours, please contact Public Safety at 206-296-5990 to report custodial concerns that involve safety, security, or property in our residential buildings.
Cleaning Definitions:
Cleaning refers to the removal of dirt and impurities from surfaces. The university custodial departments use chemicals that are designed to remove soil and help inactivate virus microbes.
Disinfecting refers to applying a EPA registered chemical to kill germs and viruses on surfaces.
Offices: Custodial staff will clean each office 1x weekly. Employees are strongly encouraged to clean and sanitize their own workspaces and personal items frequently. Trash cans in office suites and individual offices/workspaces will be emptied once a week when the office/workspace is cleaned (cleaning days vary across campus.) If you choose to empty your trash more frequently, please empty it into the trash/recycle can in the nearest break room or community trash/recycle collection area where will they will be emptied daily.
Clinical/Health Centers: All spaces will be cleaned daily 5x per week.
Classrooms: All spaces designated as classrooms will be cleaned (reset furniture, wipe down surfaces, vacuum, etc.) 2x per week. Disinfecting wipes will be available adjacent to classrooms for use between cleanings.
Restrooms, Showers, Locker Rooms: All spaces will be cleaned daily 5x per week.
Reception and Receptionist Areas: All spaces will be cleaned daily 5x per week.
Conference Rooms/ Meeting Rooms/ Study Rooms: All spaces will be cleaned daily 5x per week. Additional cleaning requests (meetings) beyond daily cleaning can be sent via work order. Please note an additional charge may be applied. For more information: contact Conference and Event Services.
Faculty & Staff Lounges / Student Lounges & Dining Areas: All spaces will be cleaned daily 5x per week.
Auditoriums/Collegiums: All spaces will be cleaned daily 5x per week.
Hallways / Stairwells / Elevators / Lobbies / Common Areas: All spaces will be cleaned daily 5x per week.
Entrance ways and Entrance Glass: Will be cleaned daily 5x per week.

CDC Guidance:
Both cleaning (use of soap or detergent) and disinfection (use of a product or process designed to inactivate SARS-CoV-2) can reduce the risk of fomite transmission. To substantially inactivate SARS-CoV-2 on surfaces, the university custodial departments use disinfectant products that also contain cleaning agents, so they are designed to clean by both removing soil and inactivating microbes.
Based on available epidemiological data and studies of environmental transmission factors, surface transmission is not the main route by which SARS-CoV-2 spreads, and the risk is low. The principal mode by which people are infected with SARS-CoV-2 is through exposure to respiratory droplets carrying infectious virus. In most situations, cleaning surfaces using soap or detergent, and not applying disinfectant, is enough to reduce risk.
When no people with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 are known to have been in a space cleaning once a day is usually enough to sufficiently remove virus that may be on surfaces and help maintain a healthy facility.
