The Board of Trustees held its regular meeting on November 14, 2019. The following is a summary of the Board’s actions:
University Representatives: The Board welcomed Staff Council President Leanne Wagele; SGSU President Jess Juanich; GSC Chair Clara Cordova, and Alumni Board of Governors President-elect DJ Weidner.
Welcome of New Trustee: The Board welcomed new Trustee, Lucas Sharma, S.J.
Honorary Degree: The Board approved the award of an Honorary Doctorate to Fr. Greg Boyle, S.J. Father Boyle is the founder and director of Homeboy Industries, the world’s largest gang-intervention and rehabilitation program and author of the New York Times bestseller Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion. Fr. Boyle is the 2020 SU Commencement speaker.
Enrollment Report: The Board heard a report from Provost Shane Martin regarding Fall 2019 enrollment and the steps the university is taking to examine enrollment trends and to develop a strategic enrollment plan.
FY 20 Budget Approval: The Board approved the FY 20 Budget.
FY 21 Budget Parameters: The Board approved FY21 budget parameters for undergraduate tuition, fees, room and board.
Strategic Directions 2020-2025: The Board approved the vision and goals of the Strategic Directions for Seattle University 2020-2025. Under the leadership of the President and Cabinet, the university will develop, prioritize, sequence and integrate a set of action plans in pursuit of the vision and goals. The Strategic Directions will be released to the campus community in January 2020.
FY 19 Audit: The Board ratified the Audit Committee’s acceptance of the FY 19 Audited Financial Statements.
Bannan Renovation Authorization: The Board authorized commencement of the renovation of the Bannan buildings as part of the previously approved CSI complex project.
Real Estate Exploration: The Board heard a report on the work of the Board’s real estate exploration working group.
Event Center Exploration Update: The Board heard a report on the work of the Board’s Event Center Study Group.
Mission Governance in a Jesuit University: The Board engaged in a discussion around the role of the Board in ensuring the Catholic and Jesuit identity of the university.
