Sign of the Times
In many ways it seems the world has stood still these past two months, as if on pause. Although we are all experiencing the pandemic, our experiences vary from individual, community and country. In this newsletter, we want to highlight the experiences specifically of people facing the challenges of immigration in the US during this time.
The ICTC, with gratitude for all of our partners on this project, is pleased to open our annual Catholic Immigration Summit on May 15 (see full info below). From now until June 15 we'll continue to add videos and resources to the website. The first group of videos released includes Edwin Ferrera, Director for Hispanic Ministry of the Archdiocese of Seattle, who discusses the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on the immigrant community, and Fatima Maldonado shares her story as a DACA recipient awaiting the upcoming decision on how the program will proceed.
We are proud that Seattle University is one of the Jesuit partners in Washington state that released a letter to the state’s governor and leaders of the House of Representatives and Senate calling for a relief fund for undocumented immigrants affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Thank you to Fr. Steve Sundborg, SJ, SU President, and Fr. Arturo Araujo, SJ, Rector at the Arrupe Jesuit Residence, who both signed the letter.
