Extending Your I-20
All I-20s have an estimated Program End Date. This date is based off of your degree evaluation and how many credits you have left. However, sometimes there are times when a graduation/completion date can get pushed back. Any student who needs to stay longer MUST make sure that their I-20 will not expire.
If you need to extend your I-20, you must take steps online and in person at least one month before your I-20 program end date to ensure that your record will not be cancelled.
- Update your current mailing/Seattle address
- Verify your class registration
- Are you registered for full time?
- If applicable, are you approved for a reduced course load (RCL)?
- Verify your major
- Did you change majors without informing us?
- Does SU have your correct major listed?
- Does your major match your I-20?
Step 2: Other Documents
- Fill out an I-20 Request Form, and email it to your primary immigration advisor or to isc@seattleu.edu
- Verify that your information on the I-20 Request Form matches what you have on MySeattleU
- Letter from your academic advisor, on official department letterhead, stating why you are not completing your degree on time
- Updated bank statement/financial guarantee to include the new quarter(s)
