About Women of Color in Mission
A Women of Color in Mission (WOCIM) group within Women in Mission was launched for faculty and staff at Seattle University in Fall 2022.
WOCIM offers safe supportive space for those who identify as women of color…
…to build and deepen authentic mutual relationships across disciplines, so that women of color working at Seattle University may feel less alone and more supported.
…to reflect through an Ignatian spiritual lens on their experiences as women of color at Seattle University, particularly what it means to live out the mission in one’s work within a white- and male-dominant work environment
… to encourage and collaborate with one another to empower each woman of color to speak her truth, live more fully into and thrive using her gifts
WOCIM’s way of proceeding will be anchored in Seattle University’s Jesuit Catholic mission and its values of care, diversity, faith, justice and leadership. It is open to all those who identify as women of color, whatever their religious, spiritual or secular background or worldview.
In alignment with the broader Women in Mission community and in collaboration with other affinity groups on campus, WOCIM will offer an empowering space where women of color can find community and restoration, integrating Jesuit education and personal experiences to embody the university’s mission.
Led by Program Coordinator Paige Gardner, with the support of Outreach Coordinator Mary Jane Brogan and other volunteers, we hope to offer one in-person event per quarter and one passive/synchronous event per quarter.
