Biography

With a career spanning more than three decades, Colette has held influential positions at esteemed institutions, including Seattle University, Texas Tech University, Middle Tennessee State University, University of Florida, Nova Southeastern University, and Wake Forest University. Throughout her career, she has consistently demonstrated a commitment to inclusion, transparency, collaboration, and community engagement.

Colette's professional journey has been marked by her dedication to supporting student success, faculty development, multidisciplinary teaching and research, and forging mutually enriching partnerships with community stakeholders. She played a pivotal role in the successful 2020 revision of Seattle University's guidelines for promotion to Full Professor, advocating for the inclusion of holistic faculty activities that enhance student success and align with the university's mission.

In her current role as Special Assistant to the Provost, Colette Taylor is at the forefront of facilitating the work of the Seattle University ADVANCE team, focusing on cultural adaptations necessary to support and sustain deep institutional transformation. Additionally, she is an active researcher, publishing work that critically examines multicultural and multi-context issues affecting marginalized individuals and communities. Her most recent contribution includes the 2023 book, "Dear Department Chair: Letters from Black Women Leaders to the Next Generation," which amplifies the experiences of Black women leaders in higher education.

Notably, Colette is the visionary founder of several influential centers, including the Seattle University Center for Social Transformation and Leadership, the Middle Tennessee State University Center for Student Involvement, and the University of Florida Center for Leadership and Service.
