New Scholars

The Center for Religious Wisdom and World Affairs in the School of Theology and Ministry announced its first cohort of scholars today.

From a deep pool of 120 qualified candidates, the selection committee has invited 15 scholars to join the center’s scholarly project, which seeks to bring together innovative interreligious thinking and faith-based action around homelessness.

“The 15 scholars hail from many different parts of the country and world, represent a wide variety of religious and spiritual backgrounds and bring a unique combination of interdisciplinary scholarship, community engagement and interfaith collaboration,” the center announced. “They represent a distinctive brand of scholarship that is meaningfully grounded in the needs and concerns of their communities.”

The scholars will be at SU for a three-day symposium on homelessness in April, with opportunities to engage with School of Theology and Ministry students, faculty and staff, as well as select local faith leaders, policymakers and service providers.

Led by Director Manuel Mejido, the Center for Religious Wisdom and World Affairs is devoted to exploring the ways in which religious wisdom and the resources of faith communities can lend assistance in the analysis, diagnosis and community responses needed to address pressing social problems.
