Sponsored by the School of Theology and Ministry, School of Law and Elliott Bay Book Company, the evening will include a talk, Q&A, book sales and book signing. An American Family is described as “an intensely personal story about the nature of true patriotism and what it’s like to risk everything you know for the promises contained in the U.S. Constitution.” The book has been well received by many including Linda Chavez of The New York Times, who calls it “… a story about family and faith, told with a poet’s sensibility…[it] can teach all of us what real American patriotism looks like.” Khan was born in Gujranwala, a city in rural Pakistan. He moved to the United States with his wife, Ghazala, in 1980. The couple became American citizens in 1986, and raised their three sons in Silver Spring, Md. His middle son, Captain Humayun Khan, was killed in 2004 by a suicide attack near Baqubah, Iraq, and was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Khan works as a legal consultant, and is involved with the University of Virginia’s ROTC program. The event is free; REGISTER HERE.
