SU Historians Awarded Fulbright Grants

Dr. Julie Weiskopf (Seattle University, class of 2001; PhD University of Minnesota, 2011), currently an Associate Professor of History at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, is the recipient of a Fulbright US Scholar grant to teach and research in Tanzania for 10 months (August 2017 to June 2018). She will offer two courses at the University of Dar es Salaam: Oral History in the Public Sphere and Diseases and Healing in Africa (a graduate-level course). She will also conduct oral history interviews and archival research all over the country on her new project on 1970s-era mass education radio campaigns. They were meant to improve literacy, teach Swahili, instruct citizenship, and enhance public health using both print and radio media.

Kasey Deems has received a Fulbright US Student award to study at the University of East Anglia (UK) from September 2017 to June 2018. She will study the history and language of disabilities in the Middle Ages with Professor Carole Rawcliffe. Kasey will graduate in June 2017 with a double major in History and English Literature with a minor in Medieval Studies.
