He explained, “This change aligns with the greater emphasis in the program on business and management, preparing graduates to become robust leaders in their field.” The announcement continued: “The MSAL program came to Seattle University from Seattle Pacific University in 2006. In 2008, Dr. Galen Trail joined the faculty at SU, working to align the program more closely with top-ranking sport management programs. Under his leadership, the program adopted a cohort model, providing for a more in-depth educational experience. “Throughout the course of the 2-year program, most students complete 2 – 4 internships, providing them with hands-on experience in the field. In their second year, all students complete either original research on a sport business issue or question or complete an organizational analysis on a sport organization in which they have worked. Since 2011, MSAL students have completed 215 internships with 96 sport organizations in the Seattle area and beyond. “Since 2014, the MSAL program has been ranked in the top 40 sport business graduate programs internationally by Sport Business International magazine. “I would like to thank the faculty and staff of MSAL, as well as Deans David Powers and Joe Phillips, for effecting this strategic transition. I look forward to seeing the many contributions MSBL and the Albers School of Business and Economics will make toward empowering the next generation of leaders to serve the sport industry with business acumen and compassionate leadership.”
