Janice Murphy, integrated pest management coordinator, visits with SU’s former head of grounds, Ciscoe Morris, during her farewell reception on May 30.
Murphy, who is retiring from SU after 21 years, “has long been a champion for organic and sustainable gardening for the university and Seattle area,” wrote Shannon Britton, grounds and landscaping manager. “Among her many successes, she has been a leader in creating outdoor classroom experiences for the campus community, connecting faculty, staff and students with organic urban gardening, growing produce for food justice issues and establishing the campus pollinator pathway and wildlife friendly environment.”
In addition, Murphy has been a regular contributor to The Commons, penning outstanding columns on a variety of topics related to horticulture, sustainability and environmental justice. We thank her for so generously sharing her expertise and insights and wish her the best in retirement!
