Men's basketball signs six players for 2018-19 season

Seattle University men's basketball head coach Jim Hayford has announced the commitment of six players to his 2018-19 recruiting class, rounding out the roster for his second year at the helm of the Redhawks' program.

The group includes three players who have signed National Letter's of Intent, including junior college transfer Anand Hundal and incoming freshmen Riley Grigsby and Jacob Eyman. Also included are freshmen Ian Burke, Matt Vail and Joe Wall, who will all walk on to the Redhawk program this coming fall.

"We're pleased to announce the addition of these six players to our 2018-19 roster," said Hayford. "Along with our four guys who sat out last year due to NCAA transfer rules and the two players we signed in the fall, this makes 12 new faces on our Redhawk roster.

We're really excited about this group, as well the guys they are joining who had great years as part of our 20-win season in our first year as a coaching staff," Hayford added.

Hundal is a 6-10 forward hailing from Las Positas College in Livermore, Calif. The incoming junior averaged 14.8 points and 10.3 rebounds per game as a sophomore for the Hawks in 2017-18. He also led the state in blocks (77) on his way to earning first team All-Coast North Conference and first team All-State honors. Hundal prepped at Manteca High School where he led the Buffaloes to a CIF DIII state championship in 2015-16.

Grigsby is a 6-6 guard-forward combo who prepped at Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, Calif. A three-time All-Central Coast Section honoree, Grigsby was also twice named the Monarchs' Offensive Player of the Year while also earning team MVP honors and Athlete of the Year honors his senior season. He was named first team All-West Catholic League three times and earned All-Mercury News honors twice.

Eyman is a 6-8 forwarding hailing from Los Alamitos High School is Los Alamitos, Calif. He averaged 12.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game during his senior season, earning first team All-Sunset League and second team All-Orange County honors. Eyman finished his prep career as the Griffins all-time leader in blocks. He also ranks fourth in career rebounds and 12th in scoring.

Burke, a 6-5 guard, joins the Redhawks from Brophy College Prep in Phoenix. He led the Broncos to a 26-2 record in 2017-18, earning 6A Premiere Region Player of the Year honors and 6A All-Conference first team honors. Burke was named the team MVP after leading the Broncos with 16 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 4.9 apg and 1.9 spg. Burke carried a perfect 4.0 GPA through high school and was named to the Sports360AZ All-Academic First Team.

Vail is a 6-4 forward out of Stanwood High School in Stanwood, Wash. A grandson of the late Eddie O'Brien '53, Vail led the Spartans to a pair of 2A/3A Wesco South league title and three state appearances. He finished his prep career with 344 points and 216 rebounds.

Wall is a 6-6 forward who hails from Jesuit High School in Portland. He capped his senior season by earning second team All-Metro honors after helping lead the Crusaders to a 21-7 overall record and 13-2, second-place finish in the 6A Metro League.
