Declan McGlynn of Seattle University men’s soccer has been named United Soccer Coaches Player of the Week, for the period ending on Oct. 6. The sophomore scored four goals in two home wins, including a hat trick on Sunday afternoon.
McGlynn, who was also chosen Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, tallied three goals in the Redhawks’ 4-1 win over Kansas City on Sunday at Championship Field. The sophomore scored in the fourth minute for a 1-0 lead and then made it 2-1 SU with a penalty kick goal in the 53rd minute. The Kirkland, Wash., native capped scoring in the 72nd minute, finishing off assists from Hamish Ritchie and James Morris.
On Friday, the Redhawks won, 5-0, over Houston Baptist. McGlynn claimed a goal in the 77th minute, as Harrison Kurtz and Morris set him up for a goal and a 3-0 advantage.
In 2019, McGlynn tops the WAC with 15 points and is tied for the league lead with seven goals. He has scored in four straight outings to ignite SU’s four-game winning streak.
Seattle U (6-3-2, 2-0-0 WAC) heads to UNLV on Friday for another WAC match.
