Seattle U was the top-ranked college in Washington and the Northwest. The Princeton Review chose the 413 schools it profiled based on surveys the company conducted in 2018–19 of administrators at hundreds of four-year colleges about their institutions’ commitments to the environment and sustainability. The schools that made the separate “Top 50 Green Colleges” list “share superb sustainability practices, a strong foundation in sustainability education and a healthy quality of life for students on campus,” according to the publication. Seattle U’s ranking puts it in the top five percent of schools in the guide. The latest rankings were preceded this summer by two other organizations that also gave the university high marks for sustainability. Seattle U ranked #4 nationally as an overall top performer among master’s institutions, according to the 2019 Sustainable Campus Index by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. The university also earned a spot in Sierra magazine’s Top 20 “Cool Schools 2019” ranking, placing #13 out of 282 schools—and in the top 5 percent of all schools ranked—in the U.S. and Canada. The selection for the Top 50 Green Colleges for 2019 was based on a combination of school-reported data and student opinion, collected in 2018–2019 via institutional and student surveys.
