Sonora Jha, professor in the Department of Communication and Media, presented on a panel titled “Doors to Democracy: Challenges to Global Press Freedom,” at the annual conference of the Fulbright Association in Washington D.C., Oct. 24-28.
The Fulbright Association, as described on its website, “is the official U.S. alumni organization of the Fulbright Program, representing 140,000 U.S. alumni–70 years of Fulbrighters since the program’s inception–and friends of international education. (The association supports) a thriving alumni community that helps increase visibility for the Fulbright effect and helps preserve Fulbright exchanges for future generations.”
The association’s annual conference, “Connecting Minds and Hearts for Global Change,” highlighted “collaborative initiatives and research aimed at improving lives and forming communities.”
A prolific scholar whose research has been published in leading journals, Professor Jha is co-author of New Feminisms in South Asian Social Media, Film and Literature (Routledge 2017) and author of the novel Foreign (Random House India, 2013).
