Congratulations to College of Education faculty members Kerry Von Esch, Charisse Cowan-Pitre and Neria Sebastien on their successful proposal to the State of Washington’s Professional Educator Standards Board’s Advancing Equity Grant Program.
Their project, “Collectivized Teacher-Led Spaces to Empower and Support BIPOC Equity Educators,” will create a generative, teacher-activist driven space for teachers of color to individually and collectively address issues of racial equity and social justice in their classrooms, schools and districts. The goal of the two-year project is to advance equity in education by centering the work and experiences of educators of color and institutionalizing professional development models that support their retention, professional growth and identity development.
