Women’s soccer player Jessie Ray has been recognized as Seattle University’s 2019-20 NCAA Woman of the Year nominee. Ray, ’20, wrapped up a fantastic career with the Redhawks when she graduated this year.

Established in 1991, the NCAA Woman of the Year award recognizes graduating female college athletes who have distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.

Ray, a Portland, Ore., native, graduated with a 3.95 grade point average, majoring in cell and molecular biology. On the field, she was named WAC Offensive Player of the Year, leading Seattle U to the 2019 WAC regular-season and tournament titles. Ray scored in overtime to lift the Redhawks to the WAC Tournament crown, earning MVP honors. She was also a 2019 United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-West Region pick and a 2018 CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team choice.

In her four years, Ray helped Seattle U appear in three NCAA Tournaments, winning three WAC Tournaments and a pair of WAC regular-season titles. She ranks third in program history in career goals (25), assists (20) and points (70).

Next, the WAC will choose a candidate from member schools to represent the conference on the national level. Conference candidates will be announced in August.
