AthleticsWAC Honors Continue for Fall SportsNo Author ProvidedJanuary 17, 2020Invalid ImageNo Image Credit ProvidedNo Caption ProvidedThirty-one Seattle University student-athletes have been named to the 2019 Fall Academic All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Team.Thirty-one Seattle University student-athletes have been named 2019 Fall Academic All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Team, the conference office announced on Thursday. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests. A total of 298 WAC student-athletes were recognized this term. For women's soccer, 10 student-athletes were recognized. Rachel Bowler, Bailey Hall, Gina Leete, Paige Malm, Leahi Manthei, Mikaela Morey, Olivia Ovenell, Jessie Ray, Holly Rothering, and Kelsey Vogel landed on the list for the fall. Seniors Bowler, Ovenell, Ray, and Vogel are now three-time recipients, while Morey claimed a second honor. Men's soccer placed six Redhawks on the list this fall. Alex Acton-Petronotis, Julian Avila-Good, Cody Buchanan, Thomas Mickoski, Connor Noblat, and Kees Westra each qualified. Avila-Good and Buchanan are three-time honorees and Noblat and Westra are repeat winners. Andrew Ayers, Stephen Crocker, Blake Delaney, Kyle Kennedy, Ansel Pendley-Griffin, and Nathan Pixler were honored from men's cross country. Kennedy and Pixler picked up second honors. Women's cross country saw six Redhawks named this term. Marie-Therese Chahrouri, Thea Foulk, Shannan Higgins, Fiona O'Leary, Ellie Postma and Aby Smith received accolades. Foulk and Higgins tallied repeat nods for SU. Eve Kerschenbaum, Kailee Kurokawa, and Sofia Sanchez represented volleyball on the squad this term. For the fall quarter, which wrapped up just before the holiday break, 17 of 18 SU sport programs achieved a team GPA of 3.0 or above. Topping that list include five teams over a 3.5 GPA – women's golf (3.80), softball (3.655), women's swimming (3.642), women's cross country (3.604) and men's golf (3.50). Of 352 student-athletes recorded, 172 were named to the Dean's List, achieving a 3.5 GPA or higher. Sixty-one student-athletes earned a 3.9 or above and 34 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 for the term.
