Associate Professor of Biology Brett Kaiser has received an Academic Research Enhancement Award (R15) from the National Institutes of Health for his proposal “Characterization of the Bacterial BREX Phage Restriction System.” Dr. Kaiser’s project will study how certain bacteria prevent viral (phage) infection, which could lead to improvements in a number of health-related areas, including disease prevention and treatment of infections. The three-year award includes funding to support students’ work on the project, exposing undergraduate students to cutting-edge research.
