Four Redhawks Named to All-Region Team

Four members of Seattle University men’s soccer were named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Far West Region team for the fall 2021 season.

Levonte Johnson earned first team honors, while Akili Kasim, ’22; Declan McGlynn, ’23; and Hal Uderitz, ’22, were named on the second team.

Johnson, a community college transfer from Brampton, Ontario, Canada, was a valuable addition to the Redhawk attack. The All-WAC Second Team and Tournament Team member led the Redhawks in goals (9) and assists (8), as well as points (26) in 22 appearances.

Kasim, a senior from Seattle, started all 22 games in 2021. The All-WAC First Team member saved two penalty kicks against Grand Canyon to clinch SU’s fifth WAC tournament championship. He posted 1.38 goals against average and made 85 saves this year.

McGlynn, a junior from Kirkland, Wash., receives the honor for a second time as he was also named to the second team in 2019. The forward had another successful season up front, scoring eight goals and tallying five assists in 22 starts. The All-WAC First Team member led the team with 75 shots and scored three game-winning goals. 

Uderitz, a senior from Snohomish, Wash., was one of the leaders on the defense. An All-WAC Tournament Team member, Uderitz was a part of five shutouts and chipped in five goals and two assists on offense.

This fall, SU won its fifth WAC Tournament Championship as it defeated Grand Canyon on penalty kicks. The team made its fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2013, falling to Portland, 3-2, in the first round.

In the last four seasons, a total of 15 Redhawks have been named All-Region. Julian Avila-Good, Nkosi Burgess, McGlynn and Thomas Mickoski earned honors in 2019, while Nathan Aune and Sergio Rivas were picked in 2018.  Aune, Rivas, Josh Adachi, Anthony Ayala and Alex Roldan were honored in 2017.
