Seattle University Joins College COVID Vaccine Challenge

Participating colleges commit to taking three key actions to help get their campus communities vaccinated: Engaging every student, faculty and staff member; organizing their college communities; and delivering vaccine access for all.

The challenge is part of wider campaigns to vaccinate as many persons ages 12 and up as possible, with a goal of “declaring independence” from the virus on July 4, Independence Day.

In Washington state, in addition to Seattle U, Northwestern Indian College, University of Puget Sound, University of Washington and Washington State University have joined the challenge.

“As a top ranked, mission-driven national university, it was imperative for Seattle U to be among the first to join the COVID-19 College Vaccine Challenge, ” says Tim Leary, PhD, executive vice president. “Seattle U has a responsibility to continue to serve as a leader and force for good in our community, our region and beyond.”

All Seattle U students—undergraduate, graduate and professional—, faculty and staff will be required to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and report their full vaccination to the university prior to arriving on campus in the fall.

To promote and encourage vaccination efforts for the Seattle U community and community at-large, the university has hosted vaccination clinics with partners such as Swedish and Walmart. Seattle U’s Health and Wellness Crew (HAWC) and peer educators are helping to lead the way with the student population in meeting this challenge by provide resources and developing and implementing programs and awareness campaigns. Additionally, a university-wide social media vaccination awareness campaign launched in May and will continue through the fall opening.
