In honor of Black History Month, Redhawk Dining is teaming up with the Black Student Union to showcase Black-owned businesses at Cherry Street Market. The weeklong event kicks off Feb. 21, with food from Seattle restaurant, Where Ya at Matt. Owner and chef Matt Lewis is lauded for bringing “New Orleans soul food to Seattle.” On Feb. 24, there will be a vendor fair featuring products from area businesses. With every purchase during the week, 10% of proceeds will benefit the Black Student Union Scholarship. Here’s more about the week’s events, which run each day 11 a.m.–2 p.m.: Monday, Feb. 21: New Orleans-inspired soul food comes to Seattle via Where Ya at Matt Tuesday, Feb. 22: A menu featuring eats created by Chef Billy Madison from Redhawk Dining Wednesday, Feb. 23: Hot and tasty offerings from Chick’N Fix, a Seattle-based Filipino/American food truck Thursday, Feb. 24: Get your sweet tooth satiated with cheesecake from Chef Michael Mason of the Mason Cheesecake Co. Also that day: Vendor Fair featuring local artists and creators including Noir Lux Candle Co. Here’s a bit more about the company and its mission: “Noir Lux Candle Co. was born a labor of love and has slowly but surely grown into a small business. We believe in self-care, good vibes and nostalgia. We are a black-owned, women-owned business. Each item that we create is handcrafted in small batches, specifically with you in mind.”
