Student-created app brings ease to campus navigation.

Sophomore Charlie Robinson has created a new app that helps getting to know and getting around the Seattle University campus that much easier.

The unofficial app, called “SU Campus,” is designed for students but useful for faculty and staff, too. It all began when Robinson decided to code a map of SU campus and realized other options that would be beneficial to students and the campus as a whole. Robinson, who is passionate about student engagement and participation, went about designing an app from a student perspective. On the app you’ll find both on- and off-campus events, the hours of the dining hall options including Thrive Without Nine’s menu, which changes daily, live streaming from KXSU and news from student-run newspaper, The Spectator.

“The goal is to consolidate helpful information for students to find in one place,” says Robinson. This can be seen in many of the app’s unique features such as the menu tab, which highlights the exact hour, time and location that on campus dining is available. The event tab is powered by ConnectSU—the online portal where students can engage and learn about clubs, events, opportunities and more—as it links together different events occurring on campus. Robinson has also worked with both The Spectator and student-run radio station KXSU to create tabs that provide direct access to read content from the newspaper or listen to the radio station’s live broadcasts.

Another great feature of the app is the ability to set reminders and alerts for events, as well as being able to filter events based on personal interest. Robinson has recently started working with the Center for Student Involvement’s Senior Director of Student Engagement, Bernie Liang, to continue to work to integrate the app with ConnectSU. The hope is for both to work in concert with each other as they share the similar goal of enhancing the student experience.

“It’s an app for everyone on campus, which is why I want people to feel welcome to provide feedback and suggestions,” says Robinson.

Community members are encouraged to send any ideas they have that would enhance the app to crobinson1@seattleu.edu. The app (“SU Campus”) is available for download on the App Store compatible with iPhone.
