Recently, Seattle University College of Nursing Dean Kristen Swanson, PhD, RN, FAAN, hosted state lawmakers, President Eduardo Peñalver, Provost Shane P. Martin and health care partners for a tour of its Clinical Performance Lab at Swedish Cherry Hill (CPL). The two state lawmakers in attendance, Representatives Eileen Cody (34th District) and Vandana Slatter (48th District), chair the House’s Health Care & Wellness and College & Workforce Development Committees, respectively.

“The College of Nursing plays an outsized role in helping fill critical health care jobs in our region and state,” says Dean Swanson. “Hosting two legislators on campus to show how we do it was great and we thank Representatives Cody and Slatter for joining us at the CPL.”

During the tour of the CPL, the visitors observed students learning intradermal injections, for instance, and the mechanics of birth, and ended with a simulation of a real-life emergency medical situation in a rural medical clinic.

The College of Nursing partners with hundreds of Seattle area health care agencies, clinical facilities and communities, providing its students with excellent learning and career opportunities. As of the Fall 2021 academic year, 639 undergraduate students and 328 graduate students were enrolled in the college.
