Making a Difference: Alumni Day of Service

After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Seattle University’s signature Alumni Day of Service is back. On April 30, nearly 50 alumni, friends and their families will gather at various service site locations throughout the Puget Sound and in Portland.

Spearheaded by the Seattle University Alumni Association, Alumni Day of Service brings together the Seattle U community to live out the university’s mission to serve others by volunteering at local organizations right in their backyard.

“We are ecstatic to bring back this important day,” says De’Andre Jones, director for alumni engagement. “Despite the shortage of volunteer sites available due to COVID-19 precautions, we were able to identify and partner with a group of organizations that are truly making an impact in the communities they serve.”

This year, volunteers are rolling up their sleeves at eight different locations, which include Cougar Mountain Zoo, Phenomenal She, Mary’s Place, Tacoma Rescue Mission, Portland Rescue Mission, Lifelong and the Red Cross Snohomish County. Each volunteer site is led by an alumni chapter and/or affinity group.

“Without the support of our amazing chapter and affinity group members, we wouldn’t have been able to make this happen,” says Jones.

While registration is now closed for all volunteer sites, the Office of Alumni Engagement is actively researching additional organizations to partner with for future volunteer opportunities. Contact alumni@seattleu.edu with any tips or suggestions.
